Kawayu Onsen Sennin-buro River Bath

Sennin-buro ('baño de mil personas') se crea cada invierno, del 1 de diciembre al 28 de febrero, al represar un tramo del río Oto, afluente del río Kumano, en Hongu-cho, ciudad de Tanabe. El agua termal brota del lecho del río a unos 73°C y se mezcla con el agua fría del río hasta estabilizarse alrededor de los 40°C en la piscina, que suele medir unos 40 por 15 metros y 60 centímetros de profundidad, aunque su tamaño exacto varía cada año según el nivel del agua. La entrada es gratuita, no requiere reserva y es obligatorio el traje de baño; los bañistas pueden cavar sus propias piscinas más pequeñas directamente en la grava del lecho del río.

Sennin-buro ('bath of a thousand people') is created every winter, from December 1 to February 28, by damming a section of the Oto River, a tributary of the Kumano River, in Hongu-cho, Tanabe City. Hot spring water emerges from the riverbed at around 73°C and mixes with the cold river water to settle around 40°C in the pool, which typically measures about 40 by 15 meters and 60 centimeters deep, though its exact size varies year to year with the water level. Entry is free, requires no reservation, and swimwear is required; bathers can dig their own smaller pools directly into the gravel riverbed.

「仙人風呂」(千人が入れる風呂の意)は、毎年12月1日から2月28日まで、田辺市本宮町を流れる熊野川の支流・大塔川の一部をせき止めて作られます。温泉水は川底からおよそ73℃で湧き出し、冷たい川の水と混ざり合って浴槽内ではおよそ40℃に落ち着きます。浴槽の大きさはおよそ40メートル×15メートル、深さ60センチほどですが、水位によって年ごとに正確な大きさは変わります。入場は無料で予約不要、水着着用が必須です。入浴客は川底の砂利に自分専用の小さな浴槽を掘ることもできます。
