Yowah Artesian Pools

Yowah es una remota comunidad minera de ópalo en el Shire de Paroo, en el extremo occidental de Queensland, tan pequeña que todo su suministro de agua, tanto para beber como para bañarse, proviene de un único pozo de la Gran Cuenca Artesiana. En agosto de 2014, la asociación local de progreso construyó dos piscinas artesianas contiguas en el centro del pueblo: una más fresca, alrededor de 39°C, y otra más caliente, alrededor de 43°C, ofreciendo a los residentes y a los visitantes que buscan ópalos un baño comunitario tras días de excavación en los terrenos arcillosos circundantes. Aquí no hay infraestructura de resort, ni entrada de pago, ni comodidades embotelladas: solo la respuesta de un pequeño pueblo a vivir sobre una de las mayores reservas de agua subterránea del mundo, construida por quienes la usan.

Yowah is a remote opal-mining community in the Shire of Paroo, far western Queensland, small enough that its entire water supply — for drinking and bathing alike — comes from a single Great Artesian Basin bore. In August 2014, the local progress association built two adjoining artesian pools in the town centre, a cooler one running around 39°C and a hotter one around 43°C, giving residents and the opal-hunting visitors who pass through a communal soak after days spent fossicking in the surrounding claypans. There is no resort infrastructure here, no entry fee, and no bottled amenities — just a small-town response to living on top of one of the world's largest underground water reserves, built by the people who use it.
