Aquadome, Termas de Unhais da Serra

El establecimiento termal Aquadome se encuentra en el pueblo de Unhais da Serra, en el municipio de Covilhã, en la ladera sur/suroeste de la Serra da Estrela, la cordillera continental más alta de Portugal. El agua está débilmente mineralizada (unos 280 mg/L), es bicarbonatada sódica, carbonatada, fluorada y sulfurada, procede de dos manantiales conocidos (Fonte dos Banhos y Fonte do Cortiço), y brota a unos 35,9°C con un pH de 8,3. Los manantiales fueron estudiados durante una expedición científica de 1881 a la Serra da Estrela, y el pueblo vivió su apogeo como destino turístico a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, cuando era apodado la 'Perla de la Beira'.

The Aquadome thermal establishment sits in the village of Unhais da Serra, in the municipality of Covilhã, on the southern/southwestern slope of Serra da Estrela, Portugal's highest mainland mountain range. The water is weakly mineralized (about 280 mg/L), sodium-bicarbonate, carbonated, fluoridated and sulfurated, from two named springs (Fonte dos Banhos and Fonte do Cortiço), emerging at around 35.9°C with a pH of 8.3. The springs were studied during an 1881 scientific expedition to the Serra da Estrela, and the village enjoyed a peak as a tourist destination in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when it was nicknamed the 'Pearl of Beira.'
