Central Mineral Beach, Velingrad

Velingrad, formada en la confluencia de cinco valles fluviales en los montes Ródope occidentales, se asienta sobre más de 80 manantiales minerales repartidos en varios yacimientos termominerales —entre ellos Chepino, Lyudzhene y Kamenitsa— que en conjunto vierten unos 9.000 litros de agua por minuto. En el barrio de Lyudzhene, el Tsentralen Mineralen Plazh (Playa Mineral Central) es una piscina pública al aire libre de larga tradición que se nutre directamente de este yacimiento local, uno de varios puntos de baño municipal gratuitos o de bajo coste que se distinguen de los cerca de 100 hoteles balneario y más de 60 centros de bienestar dedicados de Velingrad. Velingrad, formed at the confluence of five river valleys in the western Rhodope mountains, sits above more than 80 mineral springs distributed across several thermomineral deposits — Chepino, Lyudzhene and Kamenitsa among them — that together discharge some 9,000 litres of water per minute. The water is hyperthermal, weakly mineralized and sodium-bicarbonate-sulphate in type, carrying silica and fluorine at levels that increase from the cooler Chepino deposit toward the hotter Kamenitsa springs. In the Lyudzhene district, the Tsentralen Mineralen Plazh (Central Mineral Beach) is a long-standing open-air public pool drawing directly on this local deposit, one of several free or low-cost civic bathing spots that stand apart from Velingrad's roughly 100 spa hotels and 60-plus dedicated wellness centres. The town's title as 'Spa Capital of the Balkans' rests on this unusually dense concentration of natural sources, unmatched in scale elsewhere in Bulgaria.
