Yarrangobilly Caves Thermal Pool

Deep within Kosciuszko National Park, in the limestone karst country around the Yarrangobilly Caves, a natural spring feeds a 20-metre pool that holds a constant 27°C regardless of season — a striking anomaly in a landscape that lies under snow for parts of the year. European settlers found the cave system in 1834, and by 1901 the grand Caves House had been built here, making Yarrangobilly briefly the most popular resort in New South Wales, drawing visitors up from Sydney and Canberra long before the modern road network made the alpine high country easily accessible. Today the thermal pool remains open to the public alongside guided tours of the show caves and a network of walking tracks, offering a genuinely warm swim in one of the coldest corners of mainland Australia.
