Shirahama Onsen

Shirahama Onsen (históricamente también llamado Muro-no-yu) se cuenta entre las tres fuentes termales antiguas de Japón, junto con Dogo Onsen y Arima Onsen. Aparece en el Nihon Shoki (compilado hacia el año 720), el Kojiki y la antología poética Man'yoshu, con visitas imperiales registradas desde finales del siglo VII bajo los emperadores Tenji, Jito y Mommu. Las temperaturas de las distintas fuentes del balneario oscilan entre unos 32°C y 85°C, y comenzó a recibir visitantes del público general durante el periodo Edo, hacia 1600.

Shirahama Onsen (also known historically as Muro-no-yu) is counted among Japan's three ancient hot springs, alongside Dogo Onsen and Arima Onsen. It appears in the Nihon Shoki (compiled c. 720), the Kojiki, and the Man'yoshu poetry anthology, with imperial visits recorded from the late 7th century under Emperors Tenji, Jito, and Mommu. Spring temperatures across the resort's sources range from about 32°C to 85°C, and it began attracting general public visitors during the Edo period, around 1600.

白浜温泉（かつては牟婁の湯とも呼ばれた）は、道後温泉・有馬温泉とともに日本三古湯に数えられる。日本書紀（720年頃編纂）、古事記、万葉集にも登場し、7世紀末には天智天皇・持統天皇・文武天皇らの行幸が記録されている。源泉の温度は約32度から85度まで幅があり、江戸時代の1600年頃から一般の人々にも利用されるようになった。
