Sourcéo Dax

Dax es una ciudad termal desde la Antigüedad, cuando el pueblo tarbelo dedicó su Fontaine Chaude —un manantial de agua caliente natural en el centro del casco antiguo— a su diosa Nèhe, y los romanos construyeron después a su alrededor un complejo balneario terapéutico con piscinas de enfriamiento. Hoy la zona de Dax cuenta con dieciséis balnearios independientes, más que en ningún otro lugar de Francia. Sourcéo, en Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, al otro lado del río Adour, cambió su nombre anterior, Calicéo, en 2014, dentro de un esfuerzo por vincular más claramente el circuito de piscinas lúdicas con el auténtico patrimonio de aguas termales de la ciudad, en lugar de presentarlo como un parque acuático genérico. El agua mineral, rica en sodio, que llega a sus piscinas procede del mismo acuífero profundo que alimenta los baños de Dax desde época romana.

Dax has been a thermal town since antiquity, when the Tarbelli people dedicated its Fontaine Chaude — a natural hot spring at the centre of the old town — to their goddess Nèhe, and the Romans later built a therapeutic bathing complex around it, complete with cooling basins. Today the Dax area counts sixteen separate thermal establishments, more than anywhere else in France. Sourcéo, at Saint-Paul-lès-Dax just across the Adour river, was rebranded from its earlier name Calicéo in 2014 as part of a push to align the leisure-pool circuit more closely with the town's genuine thermal water heritage rather than positioning it as a generic aquatic park. The mineral, sodium-rich water piped to its pools originates from the same deep aquifer that has fed Dax's baths since Roman times.
