Shuzenji Onsen es un histórico pueblo termal de la península de Izu, en la prefectura de Shizuoka, centrado en el río Katsura y el templo budista Shuzenji, construido en el año 807. Shuzenji Onsen is a historic hot spring town on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, centered on the Katsura River and the Buddhist temple Shuzenji, built in 807. According to legend, the monk Kobo Daishi (Kukai) founded the springs by striking a rock in the riverbed with his walking staff (tokko), releasing hot water at what is now the town's symbolic outdoor bath, Tokko-no-Yu, in the middle of the Katsura riverbed. The spring water is a mild, alkaline-leaning simple thermal type, known for being gentle on the skin.
修善寺温泉は静岡県伊豆半島にある歴史ある温泉町で、桂川と807年に建立された仏教寺院・修禅寺を中心に発展した。伝承によれば、僧・弘法大師（空海）が独鈷（とっこ）と呼ばれる法具で川底の岩を打ち、湧き出た湯がこの地の温泉の始まりとされ、それが現在も桂川の川床にある町の象徴的な露天風呂「独鈷の湯」である。泉質は弱アルカリ性の単純温泉で、肌に優しいことで知られる。

La tradición local atribuye al monje budista Kobo Daishi (Kukai) la fundación tanto del templo Shuzenji, construido en el año 807, como del propio manantial termal, que según se dice golpeó la roca del lecho fluvial con su bastón ritual para liberar las aguas que aún hoy forman el Tokko-no-Yu. Esto convierte a Shuzenji en uno de los pueblos termales documentados más antiguos de la península de Izu.

Local tradition attributes the founding of both Shuzenji Temple, built in 807, and the hot spring itself to the Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi (Kukai), who is said to have struck the riverbed rock with his ritual staff to release the waters that still form Tokko-no-Yu today. This makes Shuzenji one of the oldest documented hot spring towns on the Izu Peninsula.
