Termas das Caldas da Rainha

El Hospital Termal Rainha D. Leonor, en la localidad de Caldas da Rainha (literalmente 'los baños calientes de la reina'), tiene su origen en 1485. Según el relato tradicional, hacia 1484 la reina D. Leonor, esposa del rey Juan II, se encontró con gente local bañándose en aguas de olor intenso cerca de un camino; tras usarlas ella misma para tratar una dolencia y recuperarse, fundó allí un hospital al año siguiente y estableció un asentamiento para sostenerlo. El agua es hipersalina, sulfurosa, clorurada sódica y sulfatada cálcica, y brota a unos 34°C con un pH de 6,9. La localidad creció alrededor del balneario y floreció en el siglo XIX, cuando el turismo termal se puso de moda entre las clases acomodadas.

Hospital Termal Rainha D. Leonor, in the town of Caldas da Rainha (literally 'the Queen's hot springs'), traces its founding to 1485. According to the traditional account, around 1484 Queen D. Leonor, wife of King João II, came across local people bathing in foul-smelling waters near a road; after reportedly using them herself to treat an ailment and recovering, she founded a hospital there the following year and established a settlement to support it. The water is hypersaline, sulphurous, sodium-chloridated and calcium-sulphated, emerging at about 34°C with a pH of 6.9. The town grew up around the spa and flourished in the 19th century as thermal tourism became fashionable among the wealthy.

カルダス・ダ・ラーニャ(文字通り「王妃の温泉」の意)にあるオスピタル・テルマル・レイーニャ・D・レオノールは、1485年の創設に遡る。伝承によれば、1484年頃、ジョアン2世王の妃レオノールが、道端で悪臭のする水に浸かる地元民を目にし、自らもある病気の治療に使ったところ回復したとされ、翌年そこに病院を設立し、それを支えるための集落を築いた。水は高塩分で硫黄性、塩化ナトリウムおよび硫酸カルシウムを含み、約34℃、pH6.9で湧出する。町は温泉を中心に発展し、19世紀には富裕層の間で温泉観光が流行し繁栄した。
