Wairakei Terraces

Wairakei Terraces, inaugurado en 1998 en el valle geotermal de Wairakei, unos 8 km al norte de Taupō, conduce agua geotermal auténtica de la Zona Volcánica de Taupo sobre terrazas de sílice construidas artificialmente para evocar las históricas Terrazas Rosa y Blanca, destruidas en la erupción del monte Tarawera en 1886. El lugar cuenta con tres piscinas termales solo para adultos y está vinculado al patrimonio de Ngāti Tūwharetoa, apoyándose en la larga tradición maorí de usar aguas termales ricas en sílice para el baño, la sanación y el bienestar. El campo geotermal de Wairakei en su conjunto, desarrollado desde 1954 para la generación de energía, albergaba históricamente más de 800 manantiales naturales catalogados antes de que el desarrollo alterara muchas de sus manifestaciones superficiales.

Wairakei Terraces, opened in 1998 in the Wairakei geothermal valley about 8 km north of Taupō, channels genuine geothermal water from the Taupo Volcanic Zone over engineered silica terraces built to evoke the historic Pink and White Terraces, which were destroyed in the 1886 eruption of Mount Tarawera. The site includes three adult-only thermal pools and is linked to Ngāti Tūwharetoa heritage, drawing on the long Māori tradition of using thermal and silica-rich waters for bathing, healing and wellness. The wider Wairakei geothermal field, developed from 1954 for power generation, was historically home to more than 800 mapped natural springs before development altered many surface features.

1998年に開業したワイラケイ・テラセスは、タウポの北約8kmにあるワイラケイ地熱渓谷内にあり、タウポ火山帯由来の本物の地熱水を、1886年のタラウェラ山噴火で失われた歴史的なピンク&ホワイト・テラスを想起させるよう設計された人工シリカ段丘へと流している。敷地内には大人専用の温泉プールが3つあり、ンガティ・トゥワレトアの伝統文化と結びついており、入浴・治療・健康増進のために温泉やシリカ豊富な水を用いてきた長いマオリの伝統を引き継いでいる。より広範なワイラケイ地熱地帯は1954年から発電のために開発され、開発により多くの地表の現象が変化する以前は800か所以上の天然温泉が確認されていた。
