The spring head produces around 42 million gallons daily, forming the Wekiva River — one of two federally designated Wild and Scenic Rivers in Florida. Visitors swim in the spring basin, paddle canoes and kayaks along the river through floodplain forest, and hike trails through a landscape of scrub, hammock, and swamp. The park is a reliable location for spotting otters, turtles, wading birds, and on occasion, manatees.
