KissSalis Therme in Bad Kissingen is supplied by the Schönborn-Sprudel, a thermal spring first tapped in 1764 for salt extraction and later used therapeutically for bathing cures. Bad Kissingen has seven functioning healing springs (Heilquellen) in the Saale valley and is classified as a Mineral- und Moorheilbad (mineral and peat spa). On July 24, 2021, UNESCO inscribed the town as one of eleven components of the transnational 'Great Spa Towns of Europe' World Heritage Site. The therme itself spans 8,000 m² with 10 indoor and outdoor pools totalling 1,000 m² of water surface.
The Schönborn-Sprudel spring that feeds KissSalis Therme was discovered in 1764 for salt extraction before its therapeutic bathing use developed. Bad Kissingen's spa quarter, alongside its historic springs including the Rakoczy-Brunnen (discovered 1737) and Maxbrunnen (first documented 1520), was inscribed by UNESCO on July 24, 2021 as part of the 'Great Spa Towns of Europe' World Heritage Site.
