Sleeping Buffalo Hot Springs

Sleeping Buffalo Hot Springs was discovered in 1924 when oil drillers struck a highly pressurized hot artesian spring producing water at 60°C. The geothermal water, rich in sodium and chloride minerals, is channeled into indoor and outdoor pools at the resort. Named for a nearby rock formation resembling a sleeping buffalo, the site holds cultural significance for local Native American communities. Its location on Montana's remote Hi-Line makes it an unexpected oasis in the northern Great Plains.
