El inipi (baño de vapor) es una de las prácticas de baño termal tradicional más extendidas y culturalmente significativas de América del Norte, encontrado de alguna forma en decenas de naciones indígenas. The inipi (sweat lodge) is one of the most widespread and culturally significant traditional heat bathing practices in North America, found in some form across dozens of Indigenous nations from the Arctic to the Gulf of Mexico. In Lakota tradition, the inipi is a purification ceremony and one of the Seven Sacred Rites transmitted by the legendary White Buffalo Calf Woman. A dome of bent willow branches is constructed, covered with buffalo robes or blankets, and heated stones (inyan) carried from a fire are placed in a central pit. Water poured over the stones creates intense steam as participants pray, sing, and sweat in a ritual of purification and renewal. The ceremony is led by a traditional knowledge keeper.

Culture
The inipi is not a tourism product. Access to ceremony depends entirely on invitation from the Lakota community. Several organizations have raised serious concerns about non-Indigenous entrepreneurs selling 'sweat lodge experiences' — this has led to documented harm and at least one fatal incident. La ceremonia del inipi tiene una huella ecológica prácticamente nula: sauce, piedra, agua y fuego. Su desafío de sostenibilidad es cultural: preservar la integridad de la ceremonia y su propiedad comunitaria, ya que la apropiación de las prácticas de sudación por parte de corrientes New Age ha causado daño espiritual y, en ocasiones, peligro físico cuando las ceremonias son dirigidas sin el conocimiento tradicional adecuado.
Sustainability
The inipi ceremony has a near-zero ecological footprint — willow, stone, water, and fire. Its sustainability challenge is cultural: maintaining the ceremony's integrity and community ownership as New Age appropriation of sweat lodge practices has caused spiritual harm and occasional physical danger when ceremonies are led without proper traditional knowledge.
