Bakreshwar Hot Spring

Bakreshwar Hot Spring es un grupo de manantiales geotérmicos en el pueblo de Bakreshwar, distrito de Birbhum, Bengala Occidental, junto al río Bakreswar, a unos 230 km de Calcuta. Los manantiales se encuentran dentro de un complejo de templos dedicado a Shiva y tienen gran importancia religiosa como uno de los 51 Shakti Peeths del hinduismo, lugares sagrados vinculados a la diosa Sati. Los manantiales individuales del conjunto presentan temperaturas superficiales de entre 35°C y 66,5°C, y estudios han comprobado que sus temperaturas se han mantenido geológicamente estables en las últimas décadas. Geológicamente, el lugar se sitúa en la continuación oriental de la zona de lineamiento Son-Narmada dentro del complejo gnéisico de Chotanagpur, y ha despertado interés científico como posible fuente de energía geotérmica, además de su papel histórico como sitio de peregrinación y baño.

Bakreshwar Hot Spring is a group of geothermal springs in the village of Bakreshwar, in Birbhum district, West Bengal, along the Bakreswar River roughly 230 km from Kolkata. The springs sit within a temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva and hold major religious significance as one of the 51 Shakti Peeths of Hinduism, sacred sites linked to the goddess Sati. Individual springs across the cluster range in surface temperature from about 35°C to 66.5°C, and studies have found their temperatures have remained geologically stable over recent decades. Geologically, the site lies on the eastern continuation of the Son-Narmada lineament zone within the Chotanagpur gneissic complex, and has drawn scientific interest as a potential source of geothermal energy alongside its long-standing role as a pilgrimage and bathing site.
