Jigokudani Monkey Park

La fuente termal de Jigokudani, en la zona de Kanbayashi Onsen, en Yamanouchi, prefectura de Nagano, emana agua natural a unos 100°C desde el lecho del río Yokoyu. Se construyó allí una instalación de baño para los macacos japoneses salvajes de la zona, y el Jigokudani Monkey Park abrió oficialmente en 1964; los edificios circundantes se originaron como una casa de baños medicinal inaugurada en 1864. El baño termal de los macacos se hizo internacionalmente conocido tras aparecer en la portada de la revista Life en 1970.

The hot spring feature at Jigokudani, in the Kanbayashi Onsen area of Yamanouchi, Nagano Prefecture, discharges natural spring water at around 100°C from the bed of the Yokoyu River. A bathing facility for the resident wild Japanese macaques was built here and the Jigokudani Monkey Park formally opened in 1964; the surrounding buildings originated as a medicinal bathhouse opened in 1864. The macaques' hot-spring bathing became internationally known after appearing on the cover of Life magazine in 1970.

長野県山ノ内町の上林温泉地区にある地獄谷の源泉は、横湯川の川底から約100度の湯を湧出する。ここに野生のニホンザル用の入浴施設が作られ、1964年に地獄谷野猿公苑として正式に開苑した。周辺の建物はもともと1864年に開業した湯治場に由来する。サルの温泉入浴は1970年に米ライフ誌の表紙を飾ったことで世界的に知られるようになった。
