Leukerbad Therme

Leukerbad se asienta sobre cimientos de época romana, y sus aguas termales, ricas en calcio y sulfato de origen yesífero, eran conocidas ya en la antigüedad. Hoy, 65 manantiales termales individuales, agrupados en ocho zonas de origen, aportan unos 3,9 millones de litros de agua al día, que emergen a hasta 51°C antes de descender unos 2.800 metros por la montaña hasta el pueblo. El agua se forma al filtrarse a través de depósitos de yeso del Triásico en las profundidades del subsuelo, captando calcio y sulfato antes de ascender a la superficie, lo que convierte a Leukerbad en la mayor concentración de agua termal de toda Europa. Los baños termales públicos y hoteleros del pueblo, incluida la Walliser Alpentherme en la histórica Dorfplatz, aprovechan directamente esta red de manantiales, valorada desde hace tiempo para tratar afecciones reumáticas y neurológicas.

Leukerbad sits on Roman-era foundations, its hot springs known as far back as antiquity for their calcium-sulphate, gypsum-rich waters. Today 65 individual thermal springs, grouped into eight source areas, deliver around 3.9 million liters of water daily, emerging at up to 51°C before the roughly 2,800-meter descent that brings it down the mountain to the village. The water forms as it filters through Triassic gypsum deposits deep underground, picking up calcium and sulphate before rising to the surface, giving Leukerbad the richest concentration of thermal water anywhere in Europe. The village's public and hotel-operated thermal baths, including the Walliser Alpentherme on the historic Dorfplatz, draw directly on this network of springs, long valued for treating rheumatic and neurological conditions.

ロイカーバートはローマ時代の基礎の上に築かれた町で、その温泉はカルシウムと硫酸塩を豊富に含む石膏質の水として古代から知られていた。現在、8つの源泉群に分かれる65の個別の温泉から1日約390万リットルの水が湧き出し、最高51℃に達したのち、約2,800メートルを下って村へと届けられる。この水は地下深くの三畳紀の石膏層を通過する際にカルシウムと硫酸塩を取り込みながら形成され、地表へと上昇する。これによりロイカーバートはヨーロッパで最も豊富な温泉の集積地となっている。歴史ある村広場(ドルフプラッツ)にあるヴァリザー・アルペンテルメをはじめとする村内の公共・ホテル併設の温泉施設は、この源泉網から直接水を引いている。長らくリウマチや神経系の疾患の治療に用いられてきた。
