Hotel Thermal

Diseñado por los arquitectos Věra y Vladimír Machonin y construido entre 1967 y 1976, el Hotel Thermal es la obra de arquitectura modernista más conocida de Karlovy Vary y ha servido como sede central del Festival Internacional de Cine de Karlovy Vary cada año desde su finalización. Su piscina al aire libre, conectada al ala Saunia Thermal Resort del complejo, se describe por el operador como llena de auténtica agua termal caliente procedente de la red vřídelní voda de la ciudad, la misma agua termal bicarbonatada-sulfatada que alimenta la docena de manantiales históricos de Karlovy Vary. A diferencia de las columnatas de la era de los Habsburgo de la ciudad, el complejo brutalista Thermal queda fuera del límite de la inscripción de los Grandes Balnearios de Europa de la UNESCO, pero su piscina en la azotea sigue siendo uno de los pocos lugares donde se puede nadar al aire libre en el auténtico agua termal de la ciudad, en lugar de simplemente beberla o bañarse en interiores.

Designed by architects Věra and Vladimír Machonin and built between 1967 and 1976, Hotel Thermal is Karlovy Vary's best-known work of modernist architecture and has served as the central venue of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival every year since its completion. Its open-air pool, connected to the complex's Saunia Thermal Resort wing, is described by the operator as filled with genuine spring hot water drawn from the town's vřídelní voda network — the same bicarbonate-sulphate thermal water that feeds Karlovy Vary's dozen historic springs. Unlike the town's Habsburg-era colonnades, the Brutalist Thermal complex falls outside the boundary of the UNESCO Great Spas of Europe inscription, but its rooftop pool remains one of the few places to swim outdoors in the town's genuine thermal water rather than merely drink or bathe indoors in it.

建築家ヴィェラ・マホニンとヴラディミール・マホニン夫妻の設計により1967年から1976年にかけて建設されたホテル・テルマールは、カルロヴィ・ヴァリで最もよく知られたモダニズム建築であり、完成以来毎年カルロヴィ・ヴァリ国際映画祭のメイン会場として使われてきた。複合施設のザウニア・サーマル・リゾート棟に接続された屋外プールは、運営者によれば町の「ヴジードロ水」網から引かれた本物の温泉熱水で満たされているとされ、これはカルロヴィ・ヴァリの12の歴史的源泉を満たすのと同じ重炭酸・硫酸塩泉である。ハプスブルク時代の列柱廊とは異なり、ブルータリズム様式のテルマール複合施設はユネスコ「ヨーロッパの大温泉群」登録の境界外にあるが、その屋上プールは、単に飲泉したり屋内で入浴したりするだけでなく、町の本物の温泉水で屋外遊泳ができる数少ない場所の一つであり続けている。
