Lázně Hodonín draws its hydrogencarbonate-chloride-sodium brine from three boreholes (Josefov BVJ-1, BVJ-2, and the BVJ-3 control well) sunk during oil exploration in the Vienna Basin, tapping water that reaches roughly 70°C nearly two kilometres down. Physicians at Hodonín hospital began testing the mineral water's therapeutic value in 1953, with Dr. Jindřich Berka confirming its benefits by 1956; the dedicated spa (Lázeňská léčebna Hodonín) opened in July 1979, initially run by the Luhačovice spa organisation before the city took over management in 1993. With iodine concentrations described as up to 700 times that of seawater, it is considered one of the highest-quality brines of its type in Europe and treats musculoskeletal, neurological, and vascular conditions.
