Aquapark Tatralandia sits in the Ráztoky area on the northern bank of the Liptovská Mara reservoir, on the edge of Liptovský Mikuláš beneath the Tatra mountains, and opened to the public on July 5, 2003 after a construction period of less than eight months. It is supplied by a geothermal well drilled deeper than 2,500 meters, delivering water at 60.7°C that geologists trace to remnant seawater trapped in the Liptov basin from the Paleogene sea roughly 40 million years ago. The park's saline White Lagoon pool showcases this heritage directly, with a mineral composition comparable to the Adriatic Sea; today the resort operates fourteen thermal pools year-round and ranks among the largest aquaparks in Central Europe.
Tatralandia's geothermal water is geologically linked to the Paleogene sea that covered the Liptov basin roughly 40 million years ago; the deep borehole taps remnant fossil seawater rather than a shallow modern aquifer, which explains the notably saline character of the park's White Lagoon pool.
