Bessho Onsen

Bessho Onsen, en la cuenca de Shiodadaira cerca de Ueda, se considera el manantial termal más antiguo de la prefectura de Nagano, conocido desde al menos la fundación del cercano templo Zenkoji hacia el año 625. Bessho Onsen, in the Shiodadaira basin near Ueda, is considered the oldest hot spring in Nagano Prefecture, known since at least the founding of nearby Zenkoji Temple around 625. During the Kamakura period (1185-1333) it served as the seat of the regional governor, a branch of the Hojo clan, who built numerous temples there, earning the town the nickname 'Kamakura of Shinshu.' Its sulfurous waters are traditionally said to have soothed the wounds of warriors.

上田近郊の塩田平にある別所温泉は、長野県で最も古い温泉とされ、625年頃に創建された善光寺と同じ頃から知られていたという。鎌倉時代（1185-1333年）には北条氏の一族がこの地の地頭を務め、多くの寺院を建立したことから「信州の鎌倉」と呼ばれるようになった。硫黄を含む湯は、伝統的に武士の傷を癒したと言われている。
