Hirayu no Mori is a day-bathing facility in Hirayu, said to be the oldest of Okuhida Onsenkyo's hot spring towns, with local legend crediting its discovery to the troops of feudal lord Takeda Shingen in the 1560s. The complex draws water from around two sources at roughly 67°C and offers numerous open-air baths. Hirayu itself served as a resting stop for Hokuriku-region lords traveling during the Edo period.

Heritage

Local legend holds that Hirayu's hot spring was discovered in the 1560s when a white monkey led exhausted troops of the warlord Takeda Shingen to the water. The town later served as a rest stop for Hokuriku lords during the Edo period (1603-1867).
