Holta Thermal Springs

Holta Thermal Springs rise inside a roughly 3-kilometer limestone gorge near Kabash village outside Gramsh, in central Albania's Elbasan County. The mineral water, distinctly milky-white in color, seeps in along the riverbank and mixes with the canyon's cold river, so reaching the warm pockets requires wading through cold water - there is no dry path. Small caves punctuate the gorge walls, and a modest thermal pool with a small café operates near the hydroelectric station at the canyon's exit, the only concession to infrastructure at an otherwise undeveloped site. Water levels are lowest, and the springs most accessible, from May to September; the setting suits visitors comfortable with cold-water river crossings and remote terrain over convenience.
