Krossnes Swimming Pool

Krossneslaug sits on the shore of the Arctic Ocean near Norðurfjörður in Árneshreppur, one of the most sparsely populated municipalities in Iceland, about 5-6 hours' drive from Reykjavík. Local farmers built the pool in 1954 after discovering geothermal water flowing toward the sea; sources give the main pool's temperature as roughly 34°C and a smaller hot tub as around 38-40°C, with fresh groundwater mixed in to balance the heat. It operates seasonally, from mid-May to late August, with a staffed attendant present in peak summer months.
