Termas do Carapacho sits by the sea at the base of a volcanic elevation in Carapacho, Luz parish, on Graciosa Island in the Azores. The water is chlorinated, sodium-based, sulfated, calcium-rich and hypersaline, notably rich in magnesium salts, emerging at around 40ºC with a pH of 7.2. Therapeutic use for rheumatic diseases, skin conditions, liver ailments and colitis dates to at least the 1750s. The 19th-century classical-style bathhouse was completely renovated in 2010 and now has 16 individual immersion bath cabins plus an adjacent natural swimming pool, operating from May 1 to September 30 each year in collaboration with the Portuguese Institute of Rheumatology.
Therapeutic use of the Carapacho waters is documented from at least the 1750s. The current bathhouse is a 19th-century classical-style building, completely renovated in 2010, which now operates in collaboration with the Portuguese Institute of Rheumatology and the regional tourism authority.
