Terme 3000, in the Prekmurje village of Moravske Toplice, sits over one of Slovenia's most productive thermal aquifers. The first well was drilled to a depth of 1,417 meters in 1960, tapping strongly gas-charged (CO2-rich) thermal water that reaches temperatures as high as 72°C at depth; the resource was officially certified as a natural therapeutic agent by the Institute of Balneology in Rogaška Slatina, with well MT-1 recognized on 5 September 1964, particularly for rheumatic and gynecological conditions. Marketed locally as 'black gold' for its high concentration of dissolved organic and mineral substances, the unfiltered thermal-mineral water distinguishes Terme 3000 from purely recreational aquaparks — the underlying resource is a certified natural spring, not heated municipal water.
