The Royal Baths of Valdieri sit at 1,370 meters in the Maritime Alps Natural Park in Piedmont's Cuneo province, making it the highest-altitude spa facility in Italy. The first bathing structure was built by the municipality in 1558, and the springs were documented in 16th-century treatises. King Carlo Emanuele III visited in 1755, and King Vittorio Emanuele II laid the foundation stone for the Hotel Royal in 1857, cementing the site's status as a favored royal retreat of the House of Savoy.
Documented in treatises by Bartolomeo Viotto (1552) and Francesco Gallina (1575), the springs became a royal retreat after King Carlo Emanuele III's visit in 1755. Following a fire in 1794, the baths were rebuilt in the early 1800s. King Vittorio Emanuele II established the site as a royal hunting reserve and laid the foundation stone of the Hotel Royal on July 10, 1857.
