Therme Bad Aibling, opened September 17, 2007 and designed by Stuttgart-based Behnisch Architekten, is built around the Desideriusquelle, a sodium-chloride-hydrogencarbonate-sulphur thermal spring with elevated fluoride and iodide content, extracted at 39.1°C from roughly 2,300 meters depth. The spring is named after Desiderius Beck, who established the town's first brine-and-peat-mud bathing facility in 1845; it received official recognition as a healing source from the Bavarian state government in summer 2008. The thermal water is used therapeutically for rheumatology, orthopedics, and neurology, and the facility draws about 300,000 visitors annually.
In 1845, Desiderius Beck established Bad Aibling's first brine and peat-mud bathing facility (Soolen- und Moorschlamm-Badeanstalt). The spring later named for him, the Desideriusquelle, received official recognition as a healing source from Bavaria's state government in summer 2008, and the modern Therme Bad Aibling opened September 17, 2007.
