Designed by architect Franz Drobny and built in 1905-06, Alžbětiny lázně combines a neo-baroque roofline with an Art Nouveau facade across a three-wing complex set in a French-style park along Smetanovy sady. Numbered "Lázně V" when Karlovy Vary's municipal bathhouses were formally numbered in 1918, it was named to honour Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria ("Sisi"), who visited the town in 1892. The bathhouse draws on the same vřídelní voda — the bicarbonate-sulphate thermal water shared by Karlovy Vary's dozen springs, the hottest of which, the Vřídlo, reaches 73°C — and today ranks among the largest single consumers of that spring water, offering mud wraps, massage, salt-cave therapy, and balneological procedures. It lies within the historic core of Karlovy Vary inscribed by UNESCO as part of the Great Spas of Europe in 2021.
