Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park is unique among Florida's natural springs in serving dual purposes: a first-magnitude karst spring producing over 142 million litres of water daily at 23°C, and a wildlife rehabilitation and viewing park with resident injured animals. Manatees are the park's stars — they congregate in the spring year-round because the constant temperature is warmer than Gulf waters in winter. An underwater observatory allows visitors to watch manatees and fish from below the waterline without entering the water. Swimming is not permitted in order to protect the manatees.
