Ngawha Springs (Māori: Ngāwhā, 'boiling spring') sits about 5 km east of Kaikohe in Northland and is Māori-owned, serving Ngāpuhi hapū connected to the nearby Ngāwhā Marae. The main complex has 16 public and 8 private pools ranging from a cooler 32°C to considerably hotter named pools such as 'Favourite' and 'Doctor,' each reputed to have distinct therapeutic properties. The springs also supply steam for the Ngawha geothermal power station. The facility underwent a major refurbishment in 2020–21, adding changing rooms, a café, and a shop, following earlier upgrades in the late 1970s.
Ngāwhā Marae and its meeting house, E Koro Kia Tutuki, serve as a traditional gathering place for Ngāpuhi hapū including Ngāti Kiriahi, Ngāti Mau, Ngāti Rangi, Te Uri Hoatau, and Te Uri Taniwha. The springs have long been used for their reputed therapeutic, balneological properties and remain Māori-owned.
