Raksawarin Hot Springs and Public Park is one of southern Thailand's best-known geothermal sites, located in Khao Niwet subdistrict just east of Ranong town. Three natural pools — locally named Bo Pho (Father), Bo Mae (Mother) and Bo Luk Sao (Daughter/Child) — emerge from the ground at a consistent 65°C, unusually free of the sulphur smell typical of volcanic hot springs, and are considered safe to drink at the source by locals. Public soaking areas cool the water to around 40°C, and the surrounding park includes an arboretum and shaded walking paths. King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) is recorded visiting the springs in 1890, and the access road, Chon Ra-u ("hot water"), takes its name from that royal visit.
King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) visited the springs in 1890, and Princess Srinagarindra later gave the site the name "Raksawarin," meaning water that heals disease, during a 1967 visit; water from the springs was also used in ceremonies for King Bhumibol's 60th birthday.
