San Kamphaeng Hot Springs, despite its name, lies in present-day Mae On District (split off from San Kamphaeng District in the 1990s), about 36 km east of Chiang Mai city. Sulphur-rich water surges from the ground at well over 100°C in dramatic natural geysers that can shoot 20 meters skyward, and is channeled into a foot-soaking canal that cools to a comfortable 40-50°C, alongside private mineral bath rooms and an egg-boiling area. The 40-acre landscaped park has long been a popular day trip from Chiang Mai for its striking geothermal displays.
