Tokaanu Thermal Pools

Tokaanu Thermal Pools sits near the southern end of Lake Taupō by Tūrangi, in a natural thermal area long known to Māori for its steaming hot mineral pools and mud pots. A short walking track through the reserve passes the natural features, while the developed pool complex offers a public pool and children's pool maintained at 36–37°C, set in sinter basins. In the 19th century the thermal area was a major stopover on the 'Grand Tour' stagecoach route, with travellers arriving by coach and departing by steam launch across the lake.
