The thermal well at Zsóry-fürdő was struck on 25 February 1939 at a depth of 875 meters during exploratory drilling, surfacing at 68°C. The first bathing pool, a 35×18 meter basin, opened in July 1940, and the site was designated a nationally significant thermal bath in 1983. Classified as calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, and sodium-chloride water, it carries an average sulfide-ion content of 15.5 mg/l — the highest of any recorded Hungarian sulfur water. The complex is named after Lajos Zsóry, who authorized the original oil-exploration drilling that discovered it.
