Aquapark Nymphaea occupies the former Ştrandul Municipal site on Aleea Ştrandului in Oradea, a city whose geothermal wells have supplied balneotherapy and district heating for decades and which sits only a few kilometers from the historic Băile Felix and Băile 1 Mai thermal resorts. Opened in September 2016 after a roughly €22-million, EU-co-financed redevelopment, it was described by local officials at the time as opening a new chapter in the city's 'geothermal tourism.' The complex draws bicarbonated, oligomineral thermal water into six indoor halls plus outdoor pools, ten slides and wellness facilities spread across about seven hectares, making it the largest public water-park investment of its kind in Romania.
The park was built on the footprint of Oradea's former municipal open-air baths (Ştrandul Municipal), a public bathing tradition tied to the city's long-documented use of its geothermal wells, which also heat parts of the city and feed the neighboring Băile Felix and Băile 1 Mai spa resorts a few kilometers away.
