Felsentherme Bad Gastein sits directly across from the town's train station at 1,100 meters altitude, drawing on the same 17 thermal springs that emerge from the Badberg at the foot of the Graukogel mountain, ranging from 40°C to 46.4°C with a combined daily discharge of around five million liters. Opened in 1968 as Austria's first public thermal bath and thoroughly modernized through November 2017, the facility is built into the surrounding rock formations of the Hohe Tauern range. The springs' radon content is also used therapeutically at the nearby Gasteiner Heilstollen (healing tunnel) for rheumatic, respiratory and skin conditions; historically, thermal water was carried to guesthouses via open wooden channels before piped systems were introduced.

Heritage
Opened in 1968 as Austria's first public thermal bath. The Gastein springs' medieval reputation for healing drew nobility on difficult journeys despite primitive bathing facilities of the time; radon balneology continues today at the nearby Gasteiner Heilstollen.
