Taenoyu is one of seven inns making up Nyuto Onsenkyo, a hot spring village within Towada-Hachimantai National Park at the foot of Mount Nyuto. The current inn opened in 1952, applying a modern design sensibility distinct from the village's more traditional buildings. Taenoyu draws on two separate sources: Kin-no-Yu ('gold spring'), a calcium-magnesium sulfate spring with khaki-brown, opaque water, and Gin-no-Yu ('silver spring'), a clear, colorless simple spring. Besides gender-separated indoor and outdoor baths, it has a mixed-gender outdoor rotenburo beside a mountain stream, and offers day-use bathing from 10:30 to 15:00, closed Tuesdays.
