Strathpeffer is one of the northernmost spa towns in Europe, sheltered in a wooded Highland valley in Easter Ross. Its springs — both sulphurous and iron-rich chalybeate — were formally developed from 1819, and by the late Victorian era the village had become a celebrated resort rivalling the great Continental spas. Grand pump rooms, hotels, and a pavilion were built to accommodate the seasonal influx. Today the restored Victorian Spa Pavilion survives as a heritage attraction, and several of the original spring wells remain accessible.
