Termas de Reyes sits 23 km from San Salvador de Jujuy, 1,750 meters up in the Quebrada de Reyes, where thermal waters emerge at temperatures reported between 35°C and 52°C depending on the source. The sulphated, sodium, calcium and bicarbonated alkaline waters are traditionally used for rheumatic and muscular conditions, circulation problems, stress and skin ailments. The site's landmark is the Gran Hotel Casino Termas de Reyes, built in 1938 by architect Jaime Roca and later expropriated in 1946 to become part of the Eva Perón Foundation; the hotel's image appears on Argentina's 50-peso banknote. Today visitors can choose between the historic hotel, cabin-style accommodations, or simpler day-use pools.
