Toyako Onsen is a resort town on the southern shore of Lake Toya at the foot of Mount Usu, within the Toya-Usu region of Hokkaido. The hot springs first appeared after Mount Usu erupted in 1910, and the area now produces one of the largest volumes of hot spring water of any onsen resort in Japan. The source water is a sodium-calcium chloride spring with a temperature of 50.3°C and a pH of 6.7. Large lakeside hotels line a lakefront promenade with foot baths, and the town hosts nightly fireworks over the lake from spring through autumn.
Toyako Onsen's hot springs emerged in 1910 when Mount Usu erupted, and the resort town developed on the lakeshore in the decades that followed.
