Portorož's spa tradition rests on five documented natural healing factors: seawater, thermomineral spring water, Aqua Madre brine, and fango mud, all drawn from the adjacent Sečovlje Salina saltworks, combined with the mild Mediterranean climate. Benedictine monks are credited with first using concentrated saltwater and saline mud to treat rheumatic conditions and ascites here in the 13th century. Commercial development began in 1879 under Giovanni Lugnano, expanded with new treatment complexes and villas from 1885, and gained a modern sanatorium in 1908 under Dr. Orazio Pupini. Today LifeClass Terme & Wellness operates the resort's Thalasso and medical wellness centers, using a mineral-rich underground spring alongside the salt-pan brine and mud that remain unique to this stretch of Slovenian coast.

Patrimonio
Heritage

The 1910 Palace Hotel, built with the most advanced therapeutic equipment of its era, was once celebrated as the most beautiful hotel on the Adriatic coast.
